Severe Weather Plan - Meet #5
Waverunners,
As we know, the weather this week has not been in our favor! Therefore I wanted to go over our severe weather plan for both safety protocols and meet completion scenarios.
Safety Protocols
In the case of thunder and lightning, we must all evacuate the pool deck and wait in our cars. We must wait 20 minutes after each thunder that is heard prior to resuming the meet. It is essential that you have the Swimtopia app, signed in and with notifications turned on, on your phone to get alerts from us as we resume the meet in accordance to safety protocol.
Meet Completion Options
If we do have a delay prior to or during the meet, here are the options we would take in order to complete the meet:
Option 1: In case of an hour-plus delay at the beginning of the meet, we swim to at least event 44 and exclude the 8 & Under Freestyle relays. Coaches can decide on deck how far to swim past this, but this would meet the 42-event minimum by the league to be able to score this meet
Option 2: In case of smaller delays, all relays are cut, and only individual events are swam
Option 3: In case of a significant delay that would not allow us to complete the minimum of 42 events, we would reconvene on Friday night to complete the minimum number of events.
League Rules Clarification:
Along with the 42 event minimum to count the meet as complete, it is required that each event stroke that is started be finished by all age groups and genders for it to count towards scoring. For example, if we get to the 100 IM, it would not count for scoring or times unless we get through event 44, the Men's 15-18 IM. That would allow all swimmers of all age groups and genders who are signed up for that race to complete that event.
I hope this clears some questions, but for those who are new, it is my goal to always finish a meet on Thursday :). Thanks Waverunners!
