Waterton Summer 2016 Registration is Open!
Hello Waverunners!
Registration is now open for the Summer 2016 season. Please go to the team website to register online. http://wat.swim-team.us/ You will find the registration button in the top right corner. You may make payment by credit card, PayPal, or by check. Please send checks (MADE PAYABLE TO WCA) to Krista van Beurden at 1871 Shoreline Trace, Grayson, GA 30017. If you leave it in her mailbox, send us a quick email so she knows to look for it. You can also drop checks off during the swim suit fittings on Sunday, April 10th from 2-4pm and Tuesday, April 12 from 6-8pm at the Waterton Clubhouse. All fees must be paid before the first practice on May 9th.
We are looking to grow our team this year. Please share this email with friends and family who may be interested.
We will be keeping the same team suit. Ordering information will be available soon.
ALL swimmers MUST sign both a liability waiver AND a concussion awareness form. These are attached to this email and can also be found under Links on the left hand side of the webpage. Also, if you did not swim with Waterton for the 2015 season you will need to provide us with a copy of the swimmer's birth certificate (passport or Driver’s license also accepted) and bring us the original to verify. These are all due by the first practice, May 9th.
Registration closes May 1st. The first day of practice will start on the afternoon of Monday, May 9th. Our first meet is on Thursday, May 26th. Morning practices will start Tuesday, May 31st. Please check the website frequently as we will be updating our practice times, meet locations, and other information as it becomes available. Tentative meet dates are already on the calendar.
Our council members this year are Krista van Beurden and Kari Scull. Coach Scott McIntyre and Morgan McIntyre will be returning for a third season with our team. We also welcome a new assistant coach, Lynn Brady. Lynn is a year round coach with Summit Swimming and a teacher with GCPS.
Swim team is open to various levels of swimmers. Please note, swim team does not take the place of swim lessons. Swimmers are expected to be able to enter the water unassisted and swim most of the way across the pool.
The Gwinnett County Swim League (GCSL) has instituted a new rule for 2016 to not allow exhibition swims during the meet. Only those swimmers than can complete their event without coach assistance will be able to swim at the meet.
We are in need of volunteers to be stroke and turn judges. Our team has loss a few key volunteers. Meets cannot happen without officials. GCSL offers training classes that must be attended to become certified as a judge. The class is 2 hours long and offered on both weeknights and weekends. Please contact us ASAP if you are interested in supporting your child’s team in this manner.
CONCUSSION BASELINE TRAINING:
GCSL supports and encourages parents and athletes to become familiar with identifying concussion injuries. GCPS in joint effort with Gwinnett Medical Center is offering concussion baseline training. This event is FREE, for ages 12 and up, on April 23rd at most area high schools. Please see attached flyer for more information and to register.
